Kevin did not like high school. He liked the social part of it, but not the academics that he continued to struggle in. I was very involved in his education or he would have quit school. I took him out of Sanger High and put him into an alternative school, which he did like a lot more than traditional high school. Even so, he wanted to quit. I told him that if he was old enough to quit school he was old enough to support himself. That was the only reason he stayed in school so I would take care of him. I know this because he told his teachers this and they called me to commend me for putting fire under him to complete high school. When he was already 18 and in his senior year of high school he asked me if he passed the GED would I allow him to quit school. I told him that I would as long as he had his GED because in the job market they were comparable. He studied really hard and passed his GED 6 months before he was to graduate. His last day of high school I took my camera and told him that I wanted some pictures before handing in the GED paperwork. He was dressed in his punk rock outfit and I snapped a picture of him next to the Gateway sign. It is a low sign and he asked if I wanted a picture of him on top of the sign. I said sure and took the picture. I told him that this was the last picture and I wanted him to give me a big smile. His friends were there and some teachers. Gateway is on a major highway with a lot of traffic. I went to take the last picture and he mooned me right there on top of the Gateway sign. Everyone laughed. I asked why he did that and he said that I said to give a big smile and they don’t get any bigger than that. That is my son. Read more about Kevin under his section. I still have this picture of his buttock.
